Rotary Brighton North and Brighton with the aid of a Foundation Grant packed goods at Donations in Kind for drought affected families

Work with other Club members as we join with the Brighton Beach Patrol to remove rubbish from the beach area around the Royal Brighton Yacht Club and the Baths on Sunday 3rd August from 9-10am.

Thank you and congratulations to our member Ian Marchment, who  has responded generously to the RAWCS appeal for donations to assist drought-stricken farmers in the Western District of Victoria.  Ian has made a personal donation of $2,800 to the appeal. The Victorian Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (Vic RESCA) dinner will be held on Saturday 6th September. This year there are 16 finalists from 11 Emergency Service agencies.

Over eighty people attended the joyful celebration of our club’s 40^th Anniversary  on Thursday April 3^rd including current members, past members, Past Presidents, and partners.

On Thursday, June 26^th, the office of President of Brighton North Rotary was passed from Peter Terrens to Anne Cobham. Forty-eight members and guests attended the Changeover Dinner, celebrating the conclusion of Peter's successful year and the commencement of Anne's 2025/2026 Rotary Year.

Virginia Turner has just returned from a 12-day visit to Vanuatu, Virginia is the National RAM Vanuatu Coordinator (Rotarians Against Malaria), and District 9800 Project Advisor for RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service).

The third round of Bayspeak was hosted by Firbank Grammar School last Wednesday, May 21st. The schools competing were Star of the Sea, Kilvington Grammar, Brighton Secondary College, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) and Firbank Grammar. Lyn Mortimer was the MC, and Christina Rearick assisted with the adjudication.

Rachel  Macindoe, our guest speaker last week, showed us in her presentation just why she was awarded the Robbie Mitchell Scholarship to study for a graduate diploma in adolescent health at the University of Melbourne.

In November 2023 World of Difference organised a tour of Cambodia by 21 young Police legatees aged between 18 and 27. The tourn participants raised over $30,000 for projects in Cambodia.  Another tour is planned for 2024.

At last week’s meeting, Dr Suresh Marcandan from Australian Rotary Health honoured Trevor McGilton with a Companion Award in acknowledgement of his generous support of Australian Rotary Health. ARH is Australia’s largest private provider of funding for mental health research.

The Rotary Walk With Us campaign throughout October is a fun way to raise awareness and funds to End Polio Now. Using Rotary’s friendly website you can register and join Brighton North's team https://www.rotarywalkwithus.org/join/brightonnorth to walk, set a distance and fundraising goals. 

In October 2022 members and friends of Brighton North Rotary committed to walk to End Polio Now and raised $3708, one of the leading amounts for a Club in D9800.  The Club was presented with a Certificate of thanks from The Rotary Foundation’s End Polio Now cause at the recent Central Melbourne Rotary’s Foundation Breakfast.  Thank you to all who participated.

BAYSPEAK 2023  REPORT  

The final of the Bayspeak competition was held last Wednesday, hosted by Firbank Grammar School. In total 38 students from 12 schools took part in Bayspeak 2023, with 12 students from 10 schools reaching the final.

The Trivia Night was a great success.

Our members and friends enjoying getting together to raise funds for worthwhile projects

When the 2019/20 bushfires tore through Sarsfield, it left 200 properties damaged and 80 homes completely destroyed. The Rotary Clubs of Brighton North and Glenferrie together with Rotary District 9820 and members of the East Gippsland Fire Aid Committee from Rotary Clubs in the Sarsfield vicinity stepped in to assist.

 Recently Lyn and Margie joined Katrina (Rotary Hawthorn) to sort multiple tracksuits donated for our Community Cares Project.  Great hands on volunteering and fun together.
