Brighton North Rotary, and its members individually, has been financially supporting Empower, a charity operating an emergency relief site in Southbank. Since Victoria declared a state of emergency due to Covid-19, four additional emergency relief sites have been launched: Pakenham, Lower Plenty, Ringwood and Geelong.
Currently, Empower is providing supplies and food to nearly 1000 people a week through its food relief centres. They distribute food on Sundays (and Fridays at Southbank) to the financially disadvantaged, migrants, students, unemployed and people who have no current means of purchasing the staples required to survive. Most of the food distributed is donated, but Empower does buy staples to make up any shortfall.
