Eighteen thousand Rotarians, including twenty-nine members and partners from Brighton North, attended last week's Rotary International Convention in Sydney.  It was a great event and Sydney shone for all of us, giving our overseas guests a lasting impression of a wonderful country that is Australia!

Consider Your Verdict

What began in 2000 is still a favourite event in our calendar.  “Judge” Phil Rowell, gowned and wigged and Mr Associate, John Cudmore, reminded us, the jurors, to consider the evidence that is admissible in court and that the burden of proof, on the balance of probabilities, is not beyond reasonable doubt.

Announcement

Dale Johnstone our police mentoree will attend Rotary on Wed 28May, to speak about his experiences in court from a policeman’s point of view.  This will be prior to the 'Consider Your Verdict' session.  This is Dale's last official visit in his role as ‘police mentoree’.

Paul Harris Fellow Sapphire Recognition

At the start of the meeting President Russell called Garry Bradd forward to present him with a Sapphire Paul Harris Fellow Recognition. This prestigeous award was awarded to Garry by Rotary International, for his long and continued support of the Rotary Foundation – well done Garry!

Walter+Eliza Hall Institute Tour

Last Wednesday evening our meeting, along with members of Brighton Beach Rotary, was held at the Walter + Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research where we learnt about the research that is carried out, but especially into malaria, in light of Rotary's involvement through Rotary Against Malaria (RAM)

Alison - Chair of our Youth committee would like members to welcome the four students who attended the March RYPEN camp to our meeting.  They will give a 2-3 minute talk about their experience.  There are two boys from Brighton Secondary College - Ryan and Jordan and two girls Star of Sea - Shannen & Grace.
