MICHAEL J HEFFERNAN B.Ec (Hons) Monash- LLB Melbourne

Michael has been a regular media commentator on the sharemarket and economy over many years.   Michael has been heavily involved with the educational side of the industry, for over 20 years lecturing to students of the Securities Institute courses ( now called FINSIA - Financial Services Institute of Australasia ), and in recognition of his services was made a Life Member of the institute, and  Michael twice received the Australian Stock Picker of the year Award by the Australian Stockbrokers Foundation in both 2013 and 2016

Michael remains heavily involved with the sharemarket and economic developments and with his wife have had their own self-managed super fund for over 20 years, and has witnessed first hand the vicissitudes and rewards of the market over the decades.

Michael was elected as Mayor of Bayside he had over 35 years’ experience in the finance and securities industry as a Sharebroker and economic and market analyst, after having been Chief Economist/Lawyer with the Australian Stock Exchange for 13 years.

Our Rotary Club established its Youth Suicide Awareness project. As a consequence of your presentation to our members all those years ago (1995), we have continued our close association with the Centre for Adolescent Health, annually providing scholarships to professionals to complete Grad Dips and Masters degrees.

District 9800 Australian Rotary Health (ARH) Representative

ARH provides funding into a broad range of general health areas, provide scholarships for rural medical and nursing students, as well as Indigenous health students. Australian Rotary Health provides funding into areas of health that do not readily attract funding, and promotes findings to the community.

Australian Rotary Health is one of the largest independent funders of mental health research within Australia and this year's main emphasis for research is Mental Health of Young Australians.

Chris is an experienced leader with 30 years working in the community, educational, hospital and health care industry. He brings extensive skills from working in Community and Non-profit Organisations, Prevention, Clinical Supervision and Strategic Management. 

Sandybeach Centre commenced operation in 1982 when the Morey family took possession of the large building on the present site at Sandringham.

A unique community development started by a private initiative is now a busy non-profit Co-operative Society with over 1,500 people using the service weekly.   As well as generating income from fee-for-service activities, the Centre receives support from the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) and City of Bayside.
