The School of St Jude, Tanzania
Gemma Sisia gave a comprehensive overview of St Jude’s at the meeting which was attended by guests from several Rotary clubs including Brighton, Brighton Beach, Melbourne Central, Dingley, Hampton and Sandringham.
Gemma described how the school began with the land gift and a $10 donation. She described the school as a Rotary success story saying Rotarians had been involved from the beginning and 13 volunteers from Armidale Central Rotary Club had built the first classroom. Now there are three campuses, approximately 1900 students (1400 boarding, 60% girls, 40% boys) and 250 Tanzanian staff.
Brighton North Rotary and Brighton Rotary matched the funds raised on the night which resulted in more than $3 000 being given to The School of St Jude.
