Virginia writes:
I joined Rotary on May 31st, 1995, during John Cudmore’s year as President. I was then only the second female member, Jane Britten being the first. It took me nine years as a Member and five years serving as Secretary before becoming the first female President of Brighton North Rotary.
My year as President in 2004 - 2005 was challenging but also exciting, as it was Celebrating a Century of Rotary. My role as President was important to enable me to continue at District level with my involvement with RAWCS ( Rotary Australia World Community Service). I am still very active in RAWCS, with a focus on malaria prevention in Vanuatu.
During my President Elect’s year each club in the District was requested to undertake a Special Project to celebrate this worldwide Rotary occasion.
With the assistance of Bayside Council and the approval of the Board my project was to make additions and improvements to our Shipwreck Playground at the end of North Road, which is still enjoyed by children. It was also agreed to add a jetty, which is still in use by the public
Thanks to Peter Harris for introducing me to Rotary, and to Past Presidents John Cudmore, Jeff Taylor and Di Brearley, on behalf of Geoff, for their guidance during my Presidential year.
