The first Brighton North Rotary inter-school debate between Firbank Grammar and Brighton Grammar School was held in 1991.  The aim is to give students the opportunity to show their debating skills.   This year’s topic was “Social networking sites do more harm than good.”

Brighton Grammar School (Noa, Elthan and Callum) argued for the affirmative and Firbank Grammar (Lilian, Maxine and Trinity) argued against.   The Adjudicator was Sam Whitney.

At the end of the debate Sam summarised the arguments and determined the winner was Firbank Grammar by two points. Best speaker was awarded to Trinity Duffield-Pugsley, third speaker for Firbank.

On the night, Janine Stratford acknowledged the contribution of Brighton North Rotary charter member, John Cudmore as the co-ordinator of the annual Brighton Grammar School/Firbank Grammar inter-school debate over a 25-year period with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation from the club. John has now handed over organising the debate to Janine’s team.
