The Variety Club of Victoria have, for more than a decade, conducted an annual Christmas Party for 5000 underprivileged, handicapped or terminally ill children.  These children are accompanied by carers, parents or teachers which can bring the total at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre to over 10,000 for the day.  The morning is filled with fun rides, face painting, animal nurseries, Vic Police and Fire Brigade exhibits, music from bands and singing groups, food and drink stalls and culminating in a huge bag of gifts. All of which is free of charge.

The volunteers are from Variety, Rotary Clubs, Freemasons and Companies like AGL offering community service days for their staff.

The Rotary Club of Brighton North has been assisting with this day for well over a decade and those who attend can only say, that the day is a huge awakener, to see these carers and their young children growing up with such hardship. It is so very “grounding” and gratifying when these little people look at you and wish you a Happy Christmas with total disregard to their personal situation.

Thank you to the ten volunteers from our Rotary Club who have been available this year, and to those over the past years, for donating your time and energy to such a wonderful day.
