International Committee Plans 2024-2025

The International Service Committee 2024 2025 comprises

Malcolm Baird, Anne Cobham, Rosalie James, Linn Maskell Sue Jones, Kerry Kornhauser, Mario Rosi, Bronwyn Stephens (Chair), Mark Stephens, Virginia Turner.

 We meet monthly via zoom.  These are the plans ratified by the RCBN board.  All proposals to the committee will be via a project proposal template.

 

Asia Pacific Region Disaster Relief

The RCBN board has provided us a brief to consider disaster relief in this area when it is necessary.  We are to bring to the Board a well-researched project proposal and our considered response.

DIK has resources for various projects our Club is engaging in, whether it be Community or International.  It is our opportunity to resource projects from the warehouse.

 The international committee has resolved to consider DIK with each project we undertake and generate a wish list for the project from the warehouse.

Its vision is to take simple and practical steps to strengthen the existing healthcare facilities in Papua New Guinea with the aim of decreasing the infant and maternal mortality and morbidity rates.

More than 1.7 billion people around the world are unbanked and can’t access the financial services they need. Kiva is an international nonprofit, with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. It is a “slow burn “investment.  Money is returned and reinvested annually.

Oceana women in health and farming is Rotary Brighton North’s focus.

Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) https://ram.rawcs.com.au/  Virginia T

Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) are bringing together and mobilising People of Action to eliminate malaria in the Western Pacific Rim – Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, The Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

Monetary contribution of $1000.  We are hopeful speaker will update the club.

 

Rotarians Against Slavery  Malcolm

The Rotary Action Group Against Slavery is committed to connect, empower and equip Rotarians to engage their communities to eradicate all forms of Modern Slavery/Human Trafficking locally and around the globe.

Ross Nancarrow –    “Every Daughter Matters”   Club speaker – joint meeting with R C Beaumaris 6 Feb 2025.  Rotary Foundation support also being explored.

 

World of Difference (WOD) Bronwyn and Mark  (wod.org.au)

WOD is once again conducting a tour in November 2024 of VicPol Legatees.  There will be two groups, 17 first-time participants and 10 legatees who are returning to Cambodia to concentrate on project work and to gain a deeper understanding of Cambodian people.

 

WOD has submitted a grant application to provide new toilets for a remote rural school as well as repair the roof and repaint the school. Construction and installation of biosand water filters will also be included and the water and sanitation projects will be carried out with the assistance of the Legatees.

 

$1000 from the BNR International Committee budget, a contribution from Rotary Hawthorn and most of the funds from WOD will comprise the total project cost of $24,000. A Foundation District Grant Application is in train.

Report received August 2024: 20 Water Tanks purchased and installed, 2 Toilet Blocks (3 Cubicles each with a Wash basin)
