Casual is the word for the first meeting of 2014. Russell was 'unchained' and no 'top table' so he & Kay mixed with the plebeians. Twenty plus members enjoyed the lubrication generously provided (in absentea) by Jill & Ian on the celebration of new grandchild Mabel Gillian.
Announcements:-

• The GSE team visit from Germany is between late Feb and late March. We have an opportunity to host 5 visitors for 2 - 3 nights. Exact timing has yet to be determined. If you want to provide some Australian hospitality please let Russell know.

• Secretary Kay requests that any member wishing to purchase a new dinner badge - maybe your details have changed or you've lost it. Please let Kay know in writing (correct spelling/description) by Monday 13th Jan.

• Barb B: informs us that RC Brighton have almost taken over organising & running the Australia Day Sailing event. They have 12 youths and RCBN is required to host 1 - 2 young people.

• Alison: could not speak highly enough of Brighton Secondary's enthusiastic involvement with Rotary particularly RCBN. RC Brighton are now also offering to sponsor RYLA, RYPEN candidates through our Club.   As Roy mentioned it would be a great opportunity to inform more students about the work of Rotary.
• The next Board meeting is on Monday 20th January.

From Pierre: following the usual ritualistic & vindictive fining of the "resident" Pom, Pierre was heard to say "Thank God the French don't play cricket!". Can they play rugby, tennis, soccer?
News Flash: RCBB Margie Desmith's film night on Friday night (10th) was a huge success. 200 guests helped raise approximately $2000 towards her Uganda projects.
Fact Of The Week: On this day seven years ago (January 9 in the United States), Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone in a keynote address at the Macworld Conference and Expo in San Francisco. Not the first but the best!

Please note that Chris is back in Bethlehem for respite until Tuesday 21Jan14. He always looks forward to members visiting him. As we know the customary bottle of red means a lot to Chris.
