Keynote Speakers – our own Peter Harris and President, Russell Brewer, shared their passion for their MG cars and gave us some insight into the MG Car club (the largest car club in Australia) and its various club registers. 

MG stands for Morris Garages, where the first cars were designed and produced in the early 1920’s.  
MG as a brand was bought by Rover in 1986, and subsequently bought by BMW in 1994.  Now owned by a Chinese company,  the latest models 5 and 6, along with the MG TF are manufactured in China but are still assembled in the UK.
Peter talked about his  MGF model (1995-2005 manufacture), the last MG model designed, manufactured and assembled in the UK.  Russell introduced us to his MGF, ordered to his specifications from the UK factory in 1997 and his rarer MGYT (1947 – 1953 manufacture) one of only 800 plus cars of that marque to come off  the assembly line.
The MGF is a mid-engine, 1.8L two seater with many more safety and comfort design features than its predecessor, the MGB.  The design team set out to deliver “The World’s Most Enjoyable Car to Drive” with the motto “Safety Fast”  Peter says it has everything the Ferrari has except the price tag!

Russell’s MGYT is a concourse winning car, which was originally sold in Victoria by Lanes Motors, subsequently went to WA , SA and is now back in Brighton.  Russell passed around the original Workshop Manual and Owners’ Manual, the instructions from which Russell says you could pull the car apart and put it back together again. He also has the complete  history of the car, and a 1954 invoice for a full service and oil change for £8 odd pounds!
