St Leonards and Star of the Sea win Bayspeak Final
Sarah A. from Star of the Sea College won the Junior section of the competition, who spoke on ‘Fear of Public Speaking’ (!) Sarah also won in 2024. The runner-up was Keira B from Kilbreda College, whose topic was ‘Poverty in South Africa’. In the Senior section, the winner was Maelys T. from St Leonards College, who spoke on ‘The Ethics of Cruelty’. The runner-up was Ginger F. from Mentone Girls Grammar, whose topic was ‘The Challenges of Living with a Disability’ The winners and runners-up have the opportunity of competing against other winning schools in the grand final of the Rotary public speaking competition later in the year. The winners receive a cash prize of $400, a personal trophy and a school trophy.
The MC for the final was Ian Littlehales from RC Sandringham. DGE Peter Shepherd and James Newbury, MLA presented the trophies and Certificates of Participation . The photographer was Russell Brewer. Bayspeak is sponsored and organised by the Rotary Clubs of Brighton, Brighton North and Sandringham.
