Getting Together & Having Fun
Fellowship is a cornerstone of Rotary. At Brighton North Rotary we have several events through the year which give us the opportunity to socialise with members, families and friends.
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner
Several members volunteer to host a dinner party at their homes for 6-8 members and their guests randomly selected at a pre-dinner cocktail party. Dinner is supplied by a local restaurant and we all enjoy a relaxed evening with old and new friends.
Barefoot Bowls
No expertise necessary to take part in our lawn bowls night! The annual event is held at the historic West Brighton Club where members and friends can try out a new sport and the more experienced can show off their skills. The post bowls buffet dinner is always delicious.
Beach Barbeque
Despite being held in the early evening in January, sometimes members and guests must brave the heat to attend the Beach Barbeque held annually on the Dendy Street Beach. With the Brighton North BBQ trailer and tables laden with food, members and guests have fun as well as promoting Rotary to other beach goers.
Theatre nights
We regularly hold charity fundraising nights at Brighton Theatre Company productions at the Brighton Town Hall. This year we raised money for the refugees settling into our local area. The event includes a sherry on arrival and supper after the performance. More theatre excursions are planned.
Melbourne Cup and AFL Grand Final nights
Our usual Thursday meeting format gives way to relaxed and fun nights before the Melbourne Cup and Grand Final. Our Grand Final night dinner meeting often includes a video of a previous Grand Final, football quiz and a hotly contested handball competition. Our celebration of the Melbourne Cup usually includes a brief talk about a famous horse racing event, a phantom Melbourne Cup call and several well-supported sweeps. All wearing our Cup outfits, of course.
Changeover Dinner
The highlight of the Rotary year is the Changeover Dinner each June when we farewell and thank the outgoing President and the new President is inducted. The outgoing President usually gives a summary of his or her year and acknowledges the support received and work done by the Club. The incoming President introduces the Club Board for the upcoming Rotary year. .
Golf Getaway
Both golfers and non-golfers are welcome at our two-day annual golf getaway. Golfers compete for the Brearley/Turner trophy which is decided over two rounds. The courses we play vary each year and have included RACV Cape Schanck and St Andrews Beach Golf Club. Messrs Brearley and Turner were foundation members of Brighton North Rotary.
Christmas Party
This is our final event for the calendar year before we take a break over the festive season. Members and their guests add style to the festivities in their brightest Christmas attire. It is a fun night!
