Police Legatees visit Cambodia
A snapshot of the tour, which was based out of the city of Siem Reap: -
• Projects undertaken - Donation of Bicycles, Education and Dental Hygiene at Schools – assistance at local medical
Centre.
• Prum Brey Village experience – construction of water boar for clean water supply
• ODA Arts School donations and interactions with children in a learning environment
• Water for Cambodia project – construction and Installation of water filters for local villagers
• Visit and insight given by local villagers of a poverty-stricken village – Donations given of food and clothing.
• Cultural cooking class – cultural experience learning History of Cambodia at Angkor Wat Temples
• Construction of Toilets in local villages
• Cultural day at Kulen Mountain
• Thom Chol School – assisted with learning activities, dental hygiene, interaction with school children – Funds raised going toward construction of a new outdoor classroom, Bicycles so children can travel and donation of uniforms so children can attend School.
Rotary World of Difference Project volunteers who attended were: – Barry Hickman, Bronwen FoleyAs part of their commitment to the tour, the VPAL members were required to raise, as a group, a minimum of the $3000.00 which was to go towards humanitarian projects in Cambodia as part of the experience that they were to undertake. In all an amount of more than $30,000.00 was raised through various fundraising activities such as, Rotary Bunnings BBQs staffed by VPAL members, Bosch Highball Car show – collection of donations by VPAL members, GoFundMe pages set up by individual
VPAL members, local business approached by VPAL members within their area, an online auction and donations received from Police Legatees at Regional Getaways throughout 2023.
Another tour with VicPol Legacy is now being organised for November 2024
